Commercial Community Improvement Design Guidelines

Municipality of Chatham-Kent

SGL was retained by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to develop Commercial Urban Design Guidelines (UDG's) uniquely adapted to the commercial neighbourhoods in the Commercial Community Improvement Plan (CCIP) Study to address the improvement of public and private property.

By establishing clear public and private property improvement strategies, the intent of these Guidelines is to result in complete and vibrant streets that enrich the social and economic health of each community. Physical improvements support local business, attract new business and tourism, retain the community's young, improve the convenience and enjoyment of the community and generate a civic pride and community self identify. While the Guidelines address change they also address the universal urban design principles of safety, comfortability and convenience of residents, patrons and visitors alike.
